About
Hey, it’s me, Erick.
The Book Hold is where I write about the books, mostly novels, that grip me. I gravitate toward literature that makes the familiar strange, or the strange familiar. I think novels manage to do this in a uniquely rich way, and I like making that richness explicit. I especially enjoy mining works in translation, experimental literature, out-of-the-way stuff. The Book Hold grew out of a desire to bring more attention to these works.
I teach philosophy by day. I make things from wood when I can. I run and swim, and I bike too.
I have a partner and a kid. We live in Los Angeles.
